Modern electric vehicles are equipped with complex thermal management systems for maximum range, efficiency and customer comfort. As these systems are mostly fluid based, new material concepts are demanded that overcome the disadvantages of vulcanized rubber hoses such as high weight and costs. Innovative TPE (Thermoplastic Elastomer) coolant hoses introduced to the market by Continental are lightweight, compact, wear resistance and cost improved. As they are based on a thermoplastic matrix, they offer recyclability, contributing to the overall sustainability goals of Continental and its customers. The first launch in fully electric cars in series will be in 2022 with two major OEMs.
