eMove360° driving report: Ford Mustang Mach-E – batteries instead of V8

When I said that we were getting the Ford Mustang Mach-E as a test car, the eyes of the male conversation partners in particular shine. Images of a car legend appear before her eyes, galloping across the streets with a fluttering mane. When he stands in front of the door, there are somewhat disappointed faces – an SUV. Of course, if we take a closer look, we still discover enough design elements from the IkonenMustang and in terms of performance, the Ford Mustang Mach-E is a real Mustang with a feeling for freedom.

An article by Sabine Metzger in the current eMove360° magazine.

Icon fans will immediately discover the long, powerfully drawn front hood, the Mustang logo on the radiator grille and of course the typical Mustang taillights with their three vertical bars. It is based on a vehicle architecture that the Ford team “Edison” has completely redeveloped for purely electric automobiles. Cool novelty: Equipped with sensors, the handle-less doors virtually jump towards the passengers. Its 2.5 tons weight is hardly noticeable. And since the huge battery packs sit in the floor of the car and press the center of gravity, it doesn’t bother with the meandering course. In addition, such an SUV also has advantages. With a length of 4.71 meters and a wheelbase of 2.9 meters, it offers more space – also for the passengers in the back seat. And: you not only have a trunk for up to 1420 liters at the rear, but you can also take 100 liters with you in the front trunk, the Frunk.

99 KWH BATTERY FOR 540 KILOMETERS OF RANGE

When it comes to its performance, the Ford Mustang Mach-E doesn’t have to hide. Our e-Mustang in rapid red metallic is a so-called volume model, equipped with a “dual motor” with “extended range battery” with 88 kWh battery (brut to 99 kWh) and has all-wheel drive with 351 hp and 580 Nm of power. The acceleration is accordingly: In just 5.1 seconds we reach 100 kilometers per hour, at 180 km / h it is cordoned off. The manufacturer specifies a WLTP range of 540 kilometers. The version with just one motor on the rear axle and 269 PS (Standard Range with 68 kWh battery) or 294 PS (Extended Range with 88 kWh battery) has a range of around 440 and 610 kilometers, respectively. If you need even more horsepower: The GT model is brand new with 487 hp, 860 Nm and an acceleration of 3.7 seconds from 0 to 100 km / h.

MAXIMUM 150 KW CHARGING CAPACITY

The navigation system reliably steers you to the next charging station. The Mustang Mach-E can charge up to 150 kilowatts at a quick charging station (HPC) such as from Ionity. A range of around 100 kilometers can be recharged within ten minutes. With a remaining energy of ten percent in the 99 kWh battery, it takes around 45 minutes to charge up to 80 percent. A novelty for the Ford brand is the use of the standard “Intelligent Range” function. This means that precise and realistic range forecasts are possible using the cloud.

360° VIEW: INSIDE THE MEGA TOUCHSCREEN IN TESLA STYLE

A generous 15-inch display in Tesla style is upright above the center console. There is another small screen behind the steering wheel. The usual menus for configuring the charging route and climate comfort and the three different driving modes: “whisper”, “enganged” and “unbridle” (unbridled) are intuitive. Everyone can do “eco”, “comfort” and “sport” – after all, you’re a Mustang. And you can hear it: The sound designers have done a great job, you almost think you can hear the V8 on the electric motors.

The table with all values can be found in the eMove360° magazine.
