Candela C-8 Polestar Edition: Iconic design combined with electric power at sea

Polestar and Candela introduce the next phase of their partnership – the Candela C-8 Polestar Edition. This combines Polestar’s Scandinavian design for luxury electric vehicles with Candela’s innovative electric hydrofoil. The collaboration demonstrates the two companies’ commitment to accelerating the shift to more sustainable electric mobility. Unique design features include a new light gray color, specially designed seat covers and hydrofoils painted in iconic Swedish gold. “Candela’s hydrofoil technology is a paradigm shift for sustainable performance in the marine industry. Just like when you first drive an electric car, you immediately feel that this is the future when the boat ‘takes off’ – and now we’re adding that extra touch with the special gold details we showcase so prominently on our cars,” said Maximilian Missoni, Head of Design at Polestar.

Earlier, the two Swedish premium mobility brands reached an initial agreement for Polestar to supply the batteries and charging technology for Candela’s electric hydrofoils. Starting in 2023, all Candela C-8 boats will be equipped with Polestar’s 69 kWh battery and 2 Standard Range charging technology, achieving a range of up to 57 nautical miles on one charge at a cruising speed of 22 knots. These are good values compared to conventional motorboats. In the high-speed range, this provides two to three times the range of conventional electric speedboats.

The design upgrades also incorporate know-how from the automotive industry in the form of specially developed seat upholstery. This provides outstanding comfort and enhances the experience of a smooth and quiet ride in an electric hydrofoil. To highlight Candela’s innovative technology and performance, the hydrofoils are painted in the iconic Swedish Gold color, which also characterizes the typical features of Polestar vehicles.

“Aesthetic excellence is an intrinsic value, but it can also serve as a strong driver for a sustainable future. At Candela, our main focus is on developing boats that are more compelling in every way. I am therefore very excited about the Candela C-8 Polestar Edition and our collaboration with the outstanding Polestar team,” adds Gustav Hasselskog, CEO and founder of Candela.

The new design collaboration is part of a growing number of partnerships with which Polestar is tapping into more sustainable mobility that goes beyond electric cars. These include previous Polestar editions of the CAKE Makka electric scooter, the Allebike high-end mountain bike, and the Re:Move multifunctional electric van concept. www.polestar.com
