The Volkswagen Group Components site in Kassel opened a competence center for large castings. Large castings are considered a key technology for structural components of the Group’s future all-electric platforms. The plant in northern Hesse is also strengthening its role as an important Group center for the electric powertrain. Among other things, the site is focusing on the further development of power electronics. The prototypes of the pulse inverters for future electric drives will be produced on site. These and other strategic decisions, as part of the Group Components performance programme, optimize development processes, shorten production times and strengthen the expertise of the entire components plant. The next important step in the transformation of the site is the phasing out of exhaust system production and the simultaneous expansion of stator assembly for electric drives.
The new Large Castings Competence Center marks an important milestone in the strategic orientation. By investing in state-of-the-art technologies, the new center strengthens the site’s competitiveness, secures jobs and develops high-quality cast components for future Volkswagen Group vehicle models. These include, for example, a rear end and a high-voltage battery housing.
